Roller Skating in Piraeus: From the SEF Ride to Girls’ Hockey Open Day
A morning of roller skating, new friendships, and a first taste of ice hockey. Hermes Rollerskate Academy combined a group skating ride in Piraeus with a special sporting experience on the ice, giving children the opportunity to move, socialize, and discover new activities.
Roller Skating at SEF: 10 Participants and New Experiences
Our meeting point was SEF Soccer Club & Cafe at 10:30 AM. Ten participants gathered, ready to enjoy a different kind of roller skating experience in Piraeus.
The ground was still wet from the rain that had fallen earlier. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the fresh air and the unique atmosphere that follows a rainy morning.
We started by completing a loop around the Peace and Friendship Stadium (SEF). As we continued, we explored different parts of the surrounding area, tackled steeper downhill sections, rolled across grassy patches, and discovered our own “secret paths.”
For children, every route offers an opportunity to test their skills, adapt to different surfaces, and improve their control and coordination. Roller skating outside the familiar training environment adds a new dimension to learning: children need to observe their surroundings, make decisions, and move with greater independence.
More Than Exercise: Friendship, Social Skills, and Independence
During this ride, children from three Hermes training groups came together: Egaleo, Zografou, and Piraeus.
Although they usually attend lessons in different parts of Athens and Attica, they shared the same route and had the chance to get to know one another. Shared experiences help children build friendships, develop teamwork, and discover how much more enjoyable physical activity can be together.
Organized roller skating rides also help children take small but important steps toward independence. They gradually become more comfortable participating in activities without their parents constantly by their side, interact with other children, and learn to understand the space around them and anticipate how their movements affect the people around them.
Independence does not happen overnight. It develops through experience, responsibility, and opportunities to explore new challenges in a structured and supervised environment.
This is one of the reasons why group skating rides are an important complement to roller skating lessons for children at Hermes Rollerskate Academy. We do not simply learn how to skate. We learn how to use our skills, cooperate with others, and enjoy movement as part of a community.
From Inline Skates to Ice Skates: Girls’ Hockey Open Day
Our skating ride lasted approximately 45 minutes, as we then had to make our way to Ice and Skate in Egaleo, near Elaionas metro station, for the Girls’ Hockey Open Day.
Hermes participated in the event with four attendees, giving the children an opportunity to discover a different skating discipline.
We put on our ice skates, listened to the introductory theory, and stepped onto the ice. There, we practiced gliding and tried to imitate basic hockey movements, experiencing a sport that combines balance, speed, coordination, and teamwork.
The experience was particularly interesting because many of the skills developed through inline skating can provide a useful foundation for becoming familiar with ice skating.
For us, these activities are valuable opportunities for children to discover new sports, overcome their initial hesitation, and broaden their sporting horizons.
Hermes Rollerskate Academy: Helping Children Discover the Joy of Sport
From the first steps on roller skates to group rides, sporting events, and new experiences on the ice, our goal is to give children more opportunities to move, learn, and grow.
Through our roller skating lessons in Athens and across Attica, children develop balance, braking, turning, and body control. Gradually, they build the skills and confidence needed to participate in more activities and enjoy skating more independently.
Parents play an important role in this journey. We would like to thank them for their trust and for supporting our activities, which give children opportunities to learn and grow beyond their regular training sessions.
Would you like to discover the world of roller skating with us? We welcome children, parents, and adults who want to try skating, learn something new, and become part of our community.
